be nice

I have been listening to Mark Gungor’s radio program (crazy fun entertainment) and he made a very simple yet potentially life changing statement. He said “Just be nice to each other.”
Well there’s an idea! I am thinkng deeply about this.

Whether it’s your spouse, your family, your dog, the grocery clerk, or the car in front of you at the stop sign… what a difference we can make in life if we take a breath and say something nice. We really don’t even have to say anything to be nice, just a smile or a nod. Pause and open the door for them. This is a tough time economically and I know that when things get tight, tough and teary for me I tend to get very “me-centered”. This does not fare very well for my generosity and temperament. So now is the time to step back and refocus, not on my circumstances but on my attitude. What if I decide to have an attitude of hope? What if I speak words of encouragement? What if I just make an effort to be nice to those around me?

If you were the car in front of me yesterday at the corner of Park and Basswood, please forgive me and know this…if I see you today I will be nice. I might even smile.
