The new Jesus movie

John 15:13 says, “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” I can imagine no greater love and could never fathom the sacrifice that comes with that depth of love. Jesus demonstrated that love for us when he was nailed to the cross of crucifixion and took on the sins of the world. His love is greater than any other love you can imagine. The new Jesus movie, Jesus…No Greater Love, will tell the story of Jesus from the New Testament book of John and captivate audiences with its cinematic design and quality. Unlike former Jesus film projects, this film will be aimed at reaching the next generation’s youth by focusing on “the man,” the persona of Christ as an emotional and relational being with an insurmountable love for his fellow man. Bruce Marchiano, who played the character of Jesus in the Visual Bible: Matthew, is the project’s current writer/producer. On the website www.newJesusmovie.com, Marchiano has created a blog that focuses on his journey through the fundraising process for the film and gives insight into his ongoing spiritual climb, following God throughout the pre-production for the Jesus film.
Faith is an action, not just lip service, and the new Jesus movie brings that faith into play. The site opens to reveal an engaging invitation to be a producer for the movie simply by giving $10 to the cause. The website targets you from the very beginning with videos and stories from people who have donated financially in order to make film production possible. The idea behind this is to incorporate people in this new movie by asking them to be the ones responsible for the success of the project. The home page gives you access to download videos from people who have already chosen to become producers in the new film scheduled to be released in 2011. When you become a producer, you also have the option of uploading your own video for others to watch. By focusing on the next generation, the new Jesus movie will bring the gospel of John into the Hollywood scene and make it an enticing and ideal video for 21st century believers and non-believers to watch.
Jesus…No Greater Love can be accessed from Facebook, Twitter, Tangle, and YouTube and is cruising through social media outlets, making it difficult not to notice this catchy site. The navigation bar will direct you to a donations link, as well as answer any questions you may have about the production of the movie. The vision for this video is to be able to spread the Word of God to as many nations as possible. Bruce and the others involved have aimed, “to reach the next generation with the whole story of Jesus, starting ‘In the beginning…’ using the latest CGI digital technology, breath-taking cinematography, and actors who truly capture the heart of the story.” The film will differ from other films in that it will be taken word for word from the gospel of John, with no alterations. The crew believes that the Word of God is more powerful than any dramatization could ever be, and with the help of prominent actors and enhanced graphic capabilities, the new Jesus movie will be able to impact lives around the world.
It may be hard for us, as Americans, to see this movie really making some kind of a difference in people’s lives, but it truly will change people. I recently came from Tanzania, Africa, where a group of people I was with taught a week-long pastoral conference to pastors in the surrounding areas. During the week, we held a cinema night and invited the town’s people to come and sit outside of the church and watch a film with us. The families and kids there had either never heard about Jesus or had never paid much attention to who he was because they showed by the dozens. The small kids huddled around an old projector as the Jesus film began to play. The reel played through, and at the finale, some of the Africans committed their lives to God! They watched a movie and became believers of the Almighty! Here is where I pray you listen and search this website for answers. You will receive them. With God all things are possible, and He is going to make Jesus…No Greater Love, a story that every household will want share.

Making a New Jesus Film in a Brand New Way

lets get multiple generations involved...

There is a buzz starting with a relatively small group of people about a brand new fundraising effort, one that has never been done before, for a new non-profit movie production. Reaching out with technology, a lot of passion and a little mystery, The New Jesus Movie movement has started -www.NewJesusMovie.com.

The movie will come from millions of producers—everyday, normal people—all over the world who are part of the movement to bring Jesus…No Greater Love to a new generation. The brain child of actor, author and speaker Bruce Marchiano, Jesus…No Greater Love is sparking a movement of love within the body of Christ. It is a visual love letter to the world.

Bruce is flanked by a passionate group of people who have already caught the vision for what this film can be and are committing extraordinary effort to raising support for the project. These are small business owners and employees working around the clock, utilizing all their personal and professional networking abilities to spread the word about this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reach the world for Jesus. They have launched a grassroots fundraising and social media effort reaching out to individuals incorporating social networking venues such as Twitter, Twitter Hashtag, Facebook, Flikr, Tangle and YouTube. This fundraising effort has the potential to sweep across the globe in mere seconds. By incorporating traditional publicity, the group is ensuring that millions more will hear this message through traditional media outlets as well.

Conspicuously absent from the group are Hollywood insiders, celebrities and well-heeled investors. A spokesman for the group states, “This is an unprecedented fundraising adventure. It’s not about big endorsements, record-breaking profits or any media machine. If this works and we make the new Jesus movie for the next generation, it will be because of God’s power, and the glory will go to Him alone.”

Fifteen years have passed since Bruce Marchiano portrayed Jesus in the word-for-word dramatization of The Gospel According to Matthew. Now, Bruce is back, this time as the creative force fulfilling a God-given vision to send the gospel—word for word from the book of John—to the nations and the next generation in a form that leaps off the screen and into hearts. His vision is to make Jesus…No Greater Love, (see www.NewJesusMovie.com) a world-class film that will capture the heart, character and the authority of Jesus as never before, featuring all the new production techniques and CGI technology.

Two Good Reads

Through the River is a new book by Jon and Mindy Hirst (with Dr. Paul Hiebert), that encourages us to examine our assumptions about truth and helps define how those assumptions affect our relationship to the world at large. In so doing, the Hirsts offer a new perspective on truth that allows us not only to better understand how we view truth but how we might become better equipped to communicate truth in a combative culture. Their claim is that “our ability to struggle through the concept of truth in today’s world is crucial to determining our success in the Christian life, our relationships and our kingdom work.”

It is a challenging and fascinating book that takes the reader on a poignant journey through River Town, providing a gripping view on how people can live in close proximity while having radically contrasting views. River Town’s three communities live and act so differently because each group is using a distinct set of assumptions about truth (truth lens). This journey exposes the eternal consequences of how our truth lens influences whether we tell others what we know, insist that others accept what we know or resign to keep what we know to ourselves.

In short, Through the River offers a view of truth that seeks to solve the compatibility issues between worldviews and capitalizes on their strengths in such a way that each becomes better without becoming the same. A thought provoking read.

The Fasting Journey - In this life, intense circumstances and experiences can cause internal storms of such devastating severity that recovery and restoration seem like hopeless rescue attempts. In such cases, even believers can lose heart and feel completely overwhelmed by the storms of life. The Fasting Journey, by Peter Holmes—a man for whom fasting has become a way of life—is a journal of experiences and a guide designed to help those who’ve experienced how difficult it can be to clear the debris when the devastating storms of life hit.

Holmes shows us how fasting is a death of self and an act of intercession that God uses as a spiritual weapon to clarify and unleash His purposes of healing for those trapped in bondage to sin. Because of the understanding God has given him through fasting, he has helped many find answers to their most complex and deeply entrenched problems. Holmes writes, “For me, fasting has been both a highway to the Lord and a treasure-trove of ideas of how the Lord sees things and how we need to learn, while earnestly at His feet. Having based this book on my own personal experience, my intent is to broaden it into a guide for others to learn how to fast.”

As one who has fasted, this is an interesting look at the spiritual signifigance it has for us.

The Jesus Movie for
the Next Generation

www.NewJesusMovie.com

Guest post by Bruce Marchiano, producer of Jesus...No Greater Love

The truth of the gospel never changes. But Christianity has many faces. They reflect the customs and cultures and the beautiful diversity of the global church. They are lined with the wisdom of age and vibrant with the passion of youth. One gospel for all the world…but how will we deliver it in a way that reaches the whole world? How will we reach the next generation?

Young Christians today are more like St. Francis of Assisi than a circuit riding preacher. “Preach the gospel at all times and when necessary, use words.” This is a generation focused on being the hands and feet of Christ and meeting the physical needs of those in both the local and global community. They are building houses, planting gardens, taking food and clothes to the poor and helping the widows and orphans… and then they are sharing the gospel. And they are using technology like never before. They communicate the message through audio, film, video and the internet, and they strive for excellence within those mediums. They must. This is how they will reach their generation for Christ.

I share their passion. In the film, The Gospel According to Matthew, we were able to capture the heart of Christ that is so often missing in Christian films, but the quality of the film making was constrained by an $800,000 budget. Now we are inspiring a movement that will bring Jesus to film in a version that literally leaps off the screen and into the hearts of viewers.

Jesus…No Greater Love, the new Jesus movie, (http://www.newjesusmovie.com/) will be a word for word, verse by verse film adaption of the Gospel according to John. The gospel is the power of God unto salvation. That’s really our concept, that the gospel would go out in the power of the film medium, unaltered by any human script writer.

The budget for a typical Hollywood production is $100-110 million. Actors’ salaries account for much of that cost. Because the new Jesus movie will be not be paying big name actors, our team believes we can produce a world class, state-of-the-art film incorporating the latest cutting-edge technology for just $45 million. The production will be shot on location in Jerusalem and shot digitally using CGI backgrounds and a green screen stage, providing unlimited potential for sharing the gospel for generations to come.

We are inviting people from all nations and all generations to join this movement to bring the gospel to all people. A movement made of 4.5 million people contributing a tax deductible donation of $10 each would fund the cost of the film. The Gospel belongs to everyone, and the new Jesus movie will be produced expressly so it can be accessed by everyone, no matter their financial situation. Our team's vision is to see the film translated into as many languages as possible and supplied to mission organizations and churches all over the world.

You can become a part of the movement to reach the next generation. Please help us spread the word to your friends and family. If you would like to make a donation, you can do so at http://www.newjesusmovie.com./

Also, you can keep up with our progress by visiting any of these links:

Make Everyday Relationships Intentional

Community Chaplains of America can help you care for others in crisis. We encounter hurting people every day through our routine tasks and errands. Many won’t go to a church, but they still need someone with whom to talk. What if we could transform these everyday encounters into intentional, eternal opportunities?

With the help of a dynamic new program, you can claim your own community as your mission field. Community Chaplains of America training equips laypeople with the skills to help others during a time of crisis. Ordinary people with a heart for the lost and hurting can train to become a chaplain who will be present with people during times of crisis. This “ministry of presence” is particularly crucial in reaching people who are not connected to a church or a member of the clergy.

Community Chaplains of America was developed by Mark Cress, founder of Corporate Chaplains of America, a company that has provided chaplains in the workplace since 1996. The training course is based on the model developed by Corporate Chaplains of America and was written by their veteran Chaplains. The curriculum benefits from this experience, and will equip volunteers to reach people in their own areas of interest: on the little league field, in the neighborhood, at a child’s school, at work, etc.

Wonderful day it's Friday

Ah yes it is finally Friday again! We are excited to have a friend staying with us and plan to relax and enjoy the fun “cowtown” Fort Worth culture. That does not necessarily include Billy Bobs. But it will include some of our wonderful local museums and the art/historic district. And certainly a little bit of shopping.
I read a recent article in Runners World (one of my husband’s favorite publications- right next to Newsweek…) I always enjoy anything written by John Bingham AKA the Penguin. His July article is called Running Blind… very good insights! He ends the piece with a familiar line that I truly appreciate. “The miracle isn’t that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start.”

Thoreau and other tibits

Well, it has been a while since I posted here but now is better than never. I love fresh starts and new beginnings. We have had an interesting summer with some late night runs to the ER with our son but we are so blessed to have that behind us and he is on the road to good health. Yes!
Amy is doing a fabulous job as an intern for ADF at Duke this summer. We have really missed her but we are so very proud of her “go get it attitude”. What an amazing daughter! I leave in a few weeks for a 3 city book tour with Dr. Tim LaHaye, Steve has a new job with EMS ISD in the Administration Building and a trip to Washington DC for his first official conference as the districts drug czar. Yokio our min pin passed his 1st annual vet check up with flying colors and truly has claimed me as his favorite so my family is a little jealous… Yes it has been busy but good. I found a new quote to list among my favorites:
“You cannot kill time without injuring eternity.” Henry Thoreau
I certainly do not want to be responsible for any injury to eternity! – do you?

be nice

I have been listening to Mark Gungor’s radio program (crazy fun entertainment) and he made a very simple yet potentially life changing statement. He said “Just be nice to each other.”
Well there’s an idea! I am thinkng deeply about this.

Whether it’s your spouse, your family, your dog, the grocery clerk, or the car in front of you at the stop sign… what a difference we can make in life if we take a breath and say something nice. We really don’t even have to say anything to be nice, just a smile or a nod. Pause and open the door for them. This is a tough time economically and I know that when things get tight, tough and teary for me I tend to get very “me-centered”. This does not fare very well for my generosity and temperament. So now is the time to step back and refocus, not on my circumstances but on my attitude. What if I decide to have an attitude of hope? What if I speak words of encouragement? What if I just make an effort to be nice to those around me?

If you were the car in front of me yesterday at the corner of Park and Basswood, please forgive me and know this…if I see you today I will be nice. I might even smile.

lovin' life

I have never thought of myself as much of an inspiring person much less a writer... but alas you never know until you try. Even if only for my personal challenge and growth - here goes!

I believe that God has a plan for everything, everyone and every moment of life. I don’t want to waste any of that! But I don’t want to be caught up in the crazy do more, check it off your to-do-list, mindless activity. Too many days I seem to find myself in the later… oh how I hate to admit that. I know I need to slow down, enjoy the breeze as it caresses my face and tell God just how very thankful I am. I really do have a lot to be thankful for. You do too! So take a deep breath, yes you and yes now… isn’t it good? I mean really good!

Oxygen, to the lungs and brain cells and muscles and then out again… God gave us our first breath and I believe He really wants us to breathe deep, soak in Him, breath Him in. It was described to me one time as “Spiritual Breathing”. We breathe in the power and love of God and exhale all the sin and junk and baggage. It will change your day; it can change your life! I’m lovin’ life, breathing deep. I hope you are too.

Take a look at this: “Splendor and majesty are before Him; strength and joy are in His place.”
I Chronicles 16:27
I want to be in that place – don’t you?
